3D Scanner

3D scanner is a device that analyses a real-world object or environment to collect data on its shape and possibly its appearance (e.g. color). The collected data can then be used to construct digital three-dimensional models.

Vinje industri use Leica Scanstation P40 which is the most reliable equipment on the market right now. The Scanstation P40 will also give you a 360 degree panorama pictures that can be viewed inside of Internet explorer using the Trueview add-on.

Collected 3D data is useful for a wide variety of applications. These devices are used extensively by the entertainment industry in the production of movies and video games. Other common applications of this technology include industrial design, orthotics and prosthetics, reverse engineering and prototyping, quality control/inspection and documentation of cultural artifacts.

Pointcloud

Out of the scanner, you will have a pointcloud. This pointcloud is a As-Is representation of how the captured objects are build at site. This pointcloud can be used as background inside of many 3D applications like MicroStation, AutoCAD, Inventor, PDMS (CloudWorx for PDMS), PDS Etc.
Now the engineers can do the design and build new constuctions clash free and/or use the pointcloud for as-built documentation.

Software

Vinje Industri uses Autodesk Inventor and other Autodesk applications for their main 3D tool and drawing generation.

Some of the advantages by using this tool:
  • Collect more data in a shorter period of time onsite.
  • Less onsite trips… hopefully just one.
  • Reduced the time required for surveying.
  • Reductions of errors and cost.
  • Have a more accurate and trusted model to create drawings from.
  • The designers will see all of the objects in the area.
  • Benefits to visualize the models. Transportation route, clash check etc.
  • Design review.
  • 3D of course
  • And more
